Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
BARSNESS – Walter age 94 of Swift Current, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Clover House in Swift Current, SK. Walter was born on June 29, 1923 on the family homestead north of Antelope, SK. He attended Shrubland School until leaving home at the age of 14 to make his way. Walt spent a short time in the Navy stationed in Halifax, NS before returning home to help run the family farm. In 1946 Walt married the love of his life Viola Tucken. They were blessed with two daughters Judy in 1948 and Wendy in 1953. Walt was a grain buyer in Webb and Simmie and then a fulltime farmer until he retired and moved to Lethbridge, AB in 1971. Once in Lethbridge retirement didn’t last long as his love of cars lead him to a career in cars sales, which he excelled at and loved. Walt and Vi enjoyed travelling and many winters in Arizona. He was a friendly, outgoing gentleman who always had time to share a story or two. He was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was known as “Mr. Fix It” to all who knew him and there was literally nothing he could not only fix, but also had the part for. Walter will be greatly missed by his daughter Wendy (Wendell) Moberg, son in-law Cyril Oscar (Twyla), Sister in-law June Barsness, grandchildren Tammi Gloeckler, Nicole Oscar, Jodi (D.J.) Carlson, Lesli (Tyler) Hopfner and great grandchildren Chase Steadman (Brittney), Nate & Courtney Eldstrom, Tori & Rhett Carlson, Brooklyn & Brittney Hopfner and numerous nieces and nephews. Walter is pre-deceased by his loving wife Viola and daughter Judy Oscar, his parents Martin & Hilda Barsness, In-laws Otto & Pauline Tucken, sister Myrtle (John) Broten, brothers Ottar (Dorthy) Roosen, Lorne (Myrtle) Roosen, Wilhelm (Irma) Roosen, Melford (Hilda) Barsness, Harry (Josephine) Barsness, Arthur (Ella) Barsness, Louis Barsness, brother in-law Eldeen Tucken, sister in-laws Floriene (Rene) Quintin, Eleanor (Ralph) Parsons.
