Obituary of Walter Bragg
BRAGG - WALTER on December 13, 2023, Walter Bragg, age 87 years, passed away at The Meadows long term care facility in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He will lovingly be remembered by Dorothy, his wife of 40 years. He is also survived by brothers Lawrence and Greg, sister, Janet (Brian Hatala), sister-in-law Melda, and his four children, Tammie Gamble (Richard), Trudy Lacher, Tracy Sawatzky (Daniel) and Tyler Bragg (Leah); step-daughters Theresa Kosmas and Jodi McIntosh; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Walter was predeceased by his parents Angus William and Esther Katherine as well as his brother Joseph (spouse of Melda), sister Marie and brother-in-law Bill Bowie, and sister-in-law Gloria (spouse of Lawrence), and son-in-law, Terry Lacher.
Walter was born in Lacombe Alberta, February 16, 1936 to Esther Katherine Bragg and Angus James Bragg. He was the oldest of six children, followed by Joe, Marie, Lawrence, Janet, and Greg.
In the early 50's, Walter left the family farm to pursue other opportunities. He worked various jobs including a stint on the DEW Line before finding his niche in mechanical insulation with Gage Contracting Ltd which he eventually owned and operated. He worked across western Canada, primarily through contracts with Trans Canada Pipelines until his retirement.
He was never afraid to take on a new project whether it was renovations or the construction of an entire house. Always helpful to anyone who had a project on the go, Walter was a willing volunteer to family and friends. He attended as many events of his kids and grandkids as he could, driving all around the country to support them in events like baton, track meets, basketball, hockey, golf, swim meets, soapbox derbies and more.
He enjoyed travelling, driving the motorhome to various destinations in Canada and the United States. Other trips to Hawaii, Dominican Republic, Mexico and cruising to Alaska, Mexico and Belize were also favourites.
Throughout his life, Dad enjoyed country music, motor biking, curling, boating, skiing. He was a supporter of Canadian sports teams. Dad was a quiet man with a dry and subtle sense of humour which could catch a person off guard. He loved and was very attached to his two Yorkie dogs, Benji and Charlie. A true gentleman, he always tried to acknowledge the good in everyone, and was the first to lend a hand.
A private family gathering to celebrate the life of Walter Bragg will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home.
