Obituary of Sigrid Louise Warkentin
WARKENTIN – Sigrid passed away in the afternoon of Sunday Aug 13, 2023, at the Regina General Hospital. She was unable to recover after heart surgery and passed peacefully with family by her side. She is survived by her 4 children Cora (Kurt) Warkentin Wickstrom, John (Kim) Warkentin, Daryl (Jolene) Warkentin, Becky (Shawn) Warkentin and her 8 grandchildren Jordyn, Emma, Ethan, Carter, Logan, Eve, Elizabeth and Amber.
Sigrid was born in Maymont, SK to William and Agnes Martynes on Jan 25, 1942, and spent her childhood on the family farm with her siblings. She attended high school at Rosthern Junior College and then St. Paul's Hospital School for Nursing in Saskatoon, where she obtained her certification in nursing in the fall of 1966. After completion of nursing school, she spent six months traveling through Europe and worked as a nurse in Calgary before moving back to Saskatoon. Once married, she moved to Swift Current and started a family. After all four of her children had started school, Sigrid updated her nursing designation and returned to nurse as an RN until retirement. After retirement, she spent winters in Arizona and Calgary, and summers at Lac Pelletier. She enjoyed singing in multiple choirs, playing piano, painting, swimming, sewing, walking and bird watching. In the spring of 2022, Sigrid decided to move back to Swift Current from Calgary, and moved into Riverview Estates. Here she spent her last year reacquainting with old friends and meeting new ones. She was grateful that she had made the decision to move back and enjoyed her final year.
Sigrid had many friends and family that loved her kind and quirky nature. She will be truly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Riverview Estates in the Great Room on Sept 1, 2023 at 3:00 pm.
