Obituary of Kate Begin
BEGIN – Kathleen Helen (September 14, 1964 – January 17, 2023)
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathleen Helen Begin, age 58, of Swift Current Saskatchewan, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on the evening of Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Clover House, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Kate was born on September 14, 1964, the youngest of five children, in Marathon, Ontario to Lewis and Jean Cook. She married the love of her life, John Begin, on February 8, 1992, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they made Marathon their home, while raising their two sons. Kate worked at DH Foods in Marathon and in 2006, the family relocated to Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Kate worked at Fine Furniture Oasis and Canadian Tire, and it was at her places of retail employment that she made many lifelong friends with both co-workers and the community. Quite often, customers would stand in long lines and wait for Kate to serve them so that they could give her a hard time, but little did they know that she would be ready to give it back to them twice as hard, but it was all in fun. She retired in the summer of 2022. Kate easily made friends with everyone she met because she was a straight shooter and people respected that. She enjoyed attending the Bronco hockey games and loved gardening, pickling, bon fires (the bigger the better!) and spending time in her green house. Kate was a fun-loving gentle soul, with a quick wit, was very selfless and was always available to assist anyone who needed help. She was always ready with a funny story. Kate loved to curl, go to concerts, garden and travel with John and her boys. Some of their favourite concerts included Tom Petty, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Paul McCartney, and the list goes on. Together, the family vacationed in Hawaii, Europe, and Mexico to name a few. Kate and John’s favourite trips were when they took their sons or their moms along – their pair of Jeans. It was special that they got to share their adventures in Hawaii, the west coast and Montana with their moms. Her main interest was her family and she loved family pot-luck get-togethers and spending time with friends. Kate is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, John Begin and their two children, Joe and Jesse. Her sons were her pride and joy. She is also survived by her mother, Jean Cook, sisters Lorna (Dante) Paternoster and Val (Jerry) LeBoeuf, sister-in-law Rosanne Begin (Denis Lacoursiere), brothers-in-law Maurice Gobeil, Marc (Claudette) Begin, Luc (Heather) Begin, Ron (Sharilee) Begin and several nieces, nephews and many good friends. She was predeceased by her father, Lewis Cook, (2014), sister Dianna Gobeil (2022), brother Thomas Cook (2023), father-in-law, Albert Begin (2005), mother-in-law, Jeanne Begin (2020).
A private family Memorial Service to honour Kate’s life will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023, at Parkside Funeral Home, Swift Current. In addition, there will also be a Celebration of Life, with a date yet to be determined, in the spring, in Kate’s hometown of Marathon, Ontario. If friends and family so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA (306)773-1806 or the charity of your choice and will be greatly appreciated by the family. We would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses of Clover House, Cypress Regional Hospital and the Regina Allan Blair Cancer Centre for their compassionate and professional care received over the past several months.
You were deeply loved, Kate, and will be deeply missed - until we meet again.
Arrangements are in care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home – Ryan Cappelle & Hayden Cappelle
