Don has been a family friend for many years. His time with Parkside had him by our side for the passing of our family members. Over the last few years, Don would stop by the dealership to chat. Often our conversations revolved around family histories and the many history books he owned. I am grateful that he shared some of them with me for information about my own families. I miss those visits as covid has restricted many things. Please accept my condolences to Marie and Don's families and friends on his passing.

My sincere condolences to all the Sommerfeld Family on Don's passing. What a tremendous man he was! I got to know him when playing with the Kiwanis Kords for years and always enjoyed his droll sense of humour and his ever-present smile. We used to store equipment at the Parkside Funeral Home building when Don was one of the owners there. I remember going downstairs and getting equipment out from among the caskets when we were preparing to play! Also having several practices at their home. There was always coffee/tea and cookies after practice - such a great family. I certainly enjoyed knowing Don over the years and was very sorry to hear he had passed away. A life well-lived for sure. Rest in Peace Don... Jim Pratt.

Our deepest condolences to Marie and family. We enjoyed having them as neighbours and seeing their face light up when Jim would bring them fresh fish. We'll miss them dearly from the condos.

To Don's Family:
I have known Don for many years but haven't seen him for quite awhile. I grew up at Neville and took all my schooling there. I started teaching private piano/theory with Mrs. Verda Town in Swift Current as well as one day/week at Neville and one day/week at Maple Creek - travelling up there by train the night before and returning back to Swift by bus after teaching all day. Bob Williamson from Pambrun and I were married in Dec., 1956. I continued teaching until the end of June, 1957, and then moved to the farm at Pambrun, where we lived for 40 years and raised a family of 3 sons and 2 daughters. During that time I played piano with Jack Baxter's orchestra and later I played with the Kiwanis chords and run into Don again. I played with Ken Benson and have played with Jim Pratt mostly as volunteers at Seniors places and since I moved to Riverview, we play regularly for Hymn Sings and the "old" songs which we know so well. I remember Don's wife, Marie, and his brother, Gordon, and played hockey against the Neufeld girls, Dallas Loeppky, etc. Don was a few months older than Bob and Bob passed away in May, 2010. Bob boarded at Bill Baumann's in Swift Current when he took grade 12 and Mrs Baumann was a Sommerfeld. Most of this information won't be very relevant to the younger folk reading it but I have enjoyed many memories thinking of times long gone by.
Sincere condolences, Joan Williamson
