Obituary of Margaret Beisel

Margaret Beisel was born on September 22, 1940 in Herbert, SK.  At the age of 81 years old she went to be with the Lord on October 23, 2021 with her family by her side.  The day of her passing she was recovering well in the hospital and she was looking forward to coming out the following Monday. 

Margaret was predeceased by her best friend and husband Gordon, this past March, her parents Susanna & Henry Heinrichs, brothers Harry, Frank, Johnny, baby Helen, sister Helen, and brother in law Morely Tebb, and the Beisel’s Rachel, Alex, Melvin, Jesse, Betty, Alvin, Florence, Harry and Ralph.

Mom took a year of Commercial before getting married and was a city girl working at Macleods.  After Mom and Dad moved to the farm in 1964, Mom would cook, clean, raise us girls with no running water, drive tractor, haul grain, clean bins, work cattle and drive a bus route shared with Dad for 25 years.  When Mom was pregnant with Marlys, there was a terrible storm.  Their vehicle got stuck near home, so Dad carried 3 year old Jocelyn to the barn, told her to stay with a horse, then walked back to get Mom.  By the time he got back to Mom, only the top of her fur coat was showing.  A miracle was given to them that day; things could have turned out terrible if Dad wouldn’t have found Mom.  They moved to Rush Lake when Tracey was born, but moved back to the farm from spring till fall for many years.  During another hard winter, Mom and Dad drove skidoos to the farm to check cows, the fences were covered! Mom complained saying” Dad would be 2 hills ahead of her!”  They eventually moved to the acreage along the hiway, keeping busy with yardwork and hosting. 

Mom and Dad were sweethearts, and the last 7 months had been extremely hard on her.  February 10, 2021 the family gathered and celebrated their 60^th Anniversary.  They had gotten engaged on North Hill by Heartland.  Often they would walk to the barn holding hands; they were each other’s help mate.  They have 3 daughters; Jocelyn, Marlys, and Tracey.  To her great grandchildren she was known as Grandma Beisel, Grandma Choo Choo and Choo Choo Tee Tee.

Mom grew up in the Salvation Army Church, she accepted Jesus as her Savior as a young girl.  She was baptized at West Bank Bible Camp when she was in her late 60’s.  And Mom loved to sing, she sang to us as children, and Mom and Dad would sing with us when we travelled.  She looked forward to singing with the worship team in her local Evangelical Missionary Church, a place of wonderful friends and family that love the Lord.  She also, along with Dad and friends, Eldon and Doreen enjoyed sharing the Gospel with Christian Farmers at Agribition and other events. 

Margaret was adventuresome and fun.  The picture of her on the swing was just this summer!  She liked to travel and she loved to visit with so many people.  Many camping trips were enjoyed with family.  Lately we would call Mom and she would be off to bingo, playing ludo, or having coffee or a meal with family and friends, it helped her not be so lonesome for Dad, and as a family we appreciate all the friends who loved Mom.  She so much appreciated anyone coming to visit and especially the time spent with her sisters Anne and Sara this year.  She and Aunt Joyce were also such good friends, Mom would always look for her when she came out to the lake and would often stop for a visit at her house.  Spending time with her relatives from Alberta this summer at the lake along with all the other times was special for Mom.  She was an excellent baker of bread, buns, pies and Mom and Dad made pounds of noodles.  They loved to host people and so many of us enjoyed so many meals, including German meals she learned to cook. Spoiling Dad his entire life.  Mom would say, “I’m so tired” and then we’d find out she’d made a batch of buns, cinnamon rolls, a pan of matrimonial cake and it was only lunch time! 

In the past she was always such good friends with her sister in laws, spending time over a meal or a cup of coffee and dessert.  Mom would say she liked to smile at people just to make their day.

Mom especially liked her shows Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, how much money would she have won?  She often beat the contestants!  She loved shopping, especially for shoes!  Us daughters would look at Mom’s shopping lists, and they were so random we would laugh.  And her calendar was always full of People to see and places to go.

Lately Mom would be sad or frustrated and say “Gordon why did you leave me?”  Every night, just as we wrote in Dad’s story, Mom and Dad would bring out the Bible and Daily Bread and do their devotions.  They loved the day to end with the Lord.  She knew she was not perfect, but by having Jesus as her personal Lord and Saviour, she knew his blood covered her sins.  She knew one day she would meet her risen Lord, and now she is with Dad and Him.  She will be singing with her beautiful voice!

Margaret is survived by:  daughters Jocelyn (Steve) Harder, Marlys (Bob) Sawatzky, Tracey (Nick) Rampton, 10 grandchildren: Kelita (Brett) Routledge, Logan (Jolisa) Harder, Karmyn (Brendan) Nelson, Jonah (Karla) Sawatzky, Laura (George) Rodenhurst, Luke Sawatzky (Keanna Hornoi), Jamie (Emmett) Balzer, Kylee (Chad) Gieselman, Morgan (Layne) Cote and Josie Rampton (Brett Klassen); 17 great grandchildren;  Grayer, Yesenya & Lennox Routledge, Brock, Jase &Lyla Harder, Darby Nelson, Felicity, Ezekiel, Zephaniah, baby Sawatzky, Eric, Liam, Natalie Rodenhurst, baby Balzer, Brynn and Blake Gieselman.  Funeral arrangements are in care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home – Ryan Cappelle & Hayden Cappelle.
