Harold Chan

Obituary of Harold Chan

Please share a memory of Harold to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

March 1, 1930 – June 11, 2021

Harold passed away peacefully at home the weekend of June 11, 2021 at the age of 91.  He was a character who lived life to its fullest and who saw the fun and possibilities in any situation.  He was always willing to help out and to engage others in his many interests.  Family time included outdoor activities such as skating, skidooing and visiting Patricia Beach on Lake Winnipeg.  He exercised and read the newspaper every day, enjoyed cooking Chinese food, reading true crime novels about the gangsters of the 30’s and particularly loved watching America’s Got Talent.

Harold began his career with TransCanada Pipelines (TCPL) at Iles Des Chenes, Manitoba in 1958 and went on to work at Regina and then Herbert, Saskatchewan until his retirement.  His son and grandson have also followed in his footsteps at TCPL.  Harold’s passions were hunting in Manitoba, fishing at La Ronge Lake and Fort Qu’Appelle and, in his retirement, golf at the Fort Qu’Appelle and the Chinook Golf Club in Swift Current.

Harold is predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Ruth, his brother-in-law Bill and his son-in-law Richard Walker.  His legacy lives on through his children Wendy (Ken), Lynda (Larry), Norine (Ralph), Steven (Marilyn) and Beth (Darcy) and his many grandchildren Michael, Sean (Janis), Jennifer (Rod), Nicole, Derek (Jennifer), Mark, Taylor, Amy (Dan) and Amanda (Aaron) and his great-grandchildren Ava, Harlow, Layne, Keaton, Beckett, Rowan and Bodhi.

Harold is survived by his partner of 24 years, Irma Dueck and her family Debbie (Kim), Eunice (Linden), Marlene (Jack), Rod (Lori), and Greg (Darren).   His foster family also continues to celebrate his memory – predeceased by brother Fred, sister Pat and brothers-in-law Dick, Wesley and Michael and survived by brother Wally (Marion) and sisters Helen and Lily, sisters-in-law Edith and Dorothy and the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren of both of those families.

He will be greatly missed by all and fondly remembered by the many friends he made along the way.   When you hear the lonely call of the loon or drive past a golf course take the time to reminisce about the many good times you had with Harold!!!

At Harold’s request he asked that you celebrate his memory in a special way with each of your own families as he did not want a service.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.  Condolences can be posted to the Parkside Funeral Home website at www.parkside funeralhome.com.  Arrangements are in care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home – Ryan Cappelle & Hayden Cappelle.
