Obituary of James Clifford

CLIFFORD – JAMES “JIM” it is with heavy hearts we wish to advise Jim passed away on June 21, 2020 at the Meadows Long Term Healthcare Facility with his family by his side. Jim was born on February 15, 1934 in Shaunavon, SK to Vernon “Red” & Emily Clifford. He attended Powermind school which was 2 miles from the family farm near Shaunavon, SK. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Dolores “Babe” Clifford; son Wes (Carol) Clifford of Airdrie, AB, daughter Patti-Jean (George) Cobb of Swift Current, SK; grandchildren Jacquie Clifford, Michael Clifford, Connie (Josh) Albers, Bryan (Kelsie White) Cobb and Ashley Arnold; great-grandchildren Lizzie, Mya, Zayden and Tyr; sister Colleen Childs of Calgary, AB, brother Paul (Marlene) Clifford of Cochrane, AB as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Vernon “Red” & Emilie Clifford and daughter Sandy Arnold. Jim spent his career in the lumber business first with Beaver Lumber, then as manager of the Co-op yard in Shaunavon and Regina. He moved to Lethbridge, AB where he worked for federated Co-op and later transferred to Saskatoon in the same position, which required a lot of travel. Jim wanted to spend more time with his family and returned to manage the Co-op lumber yard in Shaunavon, where he built their house and eventually retired. He loved spending time with his family and friends, at their cabin at Duncairn Dam It was always a gathering spot for everyone to come and enjoy time together fishing, boating and tubing. He enjoyed making sure everything was ready to go and set up for the family by cutting all the wood for the campfires and filleting the fish they caught, as he had the skill to remove all the bones in the fillets. Jim took pride maintaining the yards and buildings both at the cabin and at their home in Shaunavon. Jim was also committed to the many communities he lived in but especially in Shaunavon where he was a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered to work at the annual pancake breakfast, fowl supper and numerous other projects. To relax, he enjoyed playing card games of any kind. Jim was also involved in local hockey, baseball and curling, and he loved watching all of his grandchildren’s sporting events. Jim was an amazing person that could always put a smile on your face. He made everyone feel so special and you felt you were a better person for knowing him. The family would like to thank the staff at the Meadows for their outstanding care and compassion with Jim. A private family service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Christ the Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish in Swift Current, SK.
