Obituary of Edith Rose Meyer

Edith Rose Meyer (nee Smith) passed away peacefully on Dec. 21st, 2019 at the St. Michael’s care facility in Lethbridge, AB. She leaves to mourn five children, Eugene (Joan), Lynn (Ed) Beakhouse, Marie Lenek, Doug (Brigitte), and Dorothy (Maurice) St. Jean, sister Evelyn (Joe) Remigi, sisters-in-law, Betty Smith, and Margarethe Meyer, as well as thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Edith was pre-deceased by Elmer, her husband of 65 years in 2016, her parents William and Phenie Smith, four sisters and four brothers, son-in-law Alan Lenek, and great-grandchild Liam. Edith was born in Fosterton, SK on Feb. 22nd, 1928 and attended high school in Cabri followed by normal school in Moose Jaw. She married Elmer in 1950 at Peace Lutheran Church and settled on the family farm. After farming in the Rush Lake area, they moved to Swift Current in 1968. Besides raising her children, Edith was very active in the church community and worked as lunch hour monitor at Irwin school where she was fondly referred to as “grandma” by the students. Edith was also an active volunteer through Meals on Wheels, Doc’s Town Heritage Village, and countless other charitable organizations in Swift Current. Most important to Edith was her family. She was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother, and never put herself above them. Edith could always be counted on for a delicious meal, cup of coffee, or just to lend an ear. Memorial donations may be made to the Peace Lutheran Cemetery Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home with interment at Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery, Prairie View District.
