Obituary of Nettie Klassen
KLASSEN – Nettie passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the age of 87. She was born May 11, 1932 and grew up in Wymark, Saskatchewan. She graduated from grade 12 with 4 others in her class. She worked for a short time at the Tuberculosis Sanatorium in Fort San and then moved to Swift Current and worked as a telephone operator with SaskTel for about 2 years. She married her husband, David, in 1955, and they lived and raised their family in Swift Current. She loved to cook and bake and enjoyed watching cooking shows, always for more ideas and recipes. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. One of her greatest joys was having the family gather together for a celebration. She always made sure everyone would have their favourite dessert to enjoy, and hence the “Magic Pie Cupboard” was born. Nothing made her smile more than to have everyone together talking, eating and laughing. In her later years, even as she struggled with osteoporosis and fragility fractures, she maintained a positive outlook and continued to enjoy visits with friends and family as much as her health allowed. She lived at the Herbert Heritage Manor for 6 years and then moved to the Meadows in Swift Current. Nettie was predeceased by her husband, David; her parents, Peter and Margaret Neudorf; and her sister, Betty Kereluik. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Shannon (Greg) Smith, Alan, Michael (Sandra), and Heather (Tom) Lademann; her brothers: Peter (Helen) Neudorf and Richard (Maryann) Neudorf; grandchildren: Erin (James) Gerrie, Amanda (Stefan) Rumpel, Christi (Richard) Cottrell, Rebecca Lademann, Crystal Klassen, and Corey Klassen; and great-grandchildren: Emmett and Oliver Rumpel, and Ethan and Ava Gerrie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Thank you to the staff at the Herbert Heritage Manor and at The Meadows for many years of kind, loving and compassionate care. A private service will be held for immediate family. Memorial donations can be made to Osteoporosis Canada. One of mom’s favourite sayings was, “ Not every day is good but there is good in every day”. Amen.
