Obituary of Steven Ens

Please share a memory of Steven to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ENS Mr. Steven John, passed away on January 23, 2008 at the Regina General Hospital after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease and cancer. Steven was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on April 25, 1963 and spent the greater part of his life in Blumenhof. He attended school in Wymark and the Swift Current Comprehensive High School. Upon finishing school he went to work on road construction and drove a euclide for several years. He was very mechanically minded and was always fabricating something. He bought a lathe and started his own business, Ens Machine. The Swift Current Booster ran a story written by Mr. Peter Godfrey dated October 25, 1993 where he wrote “a new business in Swift Current is Ens Machine owned and operated by Steven Ens from Blumenhof. Steve does fabrication and repairs oilfield and agricultural equipment. They say he can build anything from steel.” Steven had a passion for motorcycles, snowmobiles and stock car racing and though he could no longer participe he watched and said “man, that looks like fun.” Steven also had a great love for farming. Although poor health did not allow him to do much he loved every minute that he spent on the farm and often said “it was better than Hawaii.” He is survived by his parents, John and Irene Ens; brother, Mark; sister, Carolyn (Blair) Nixon, and a special nephew, Taylor Nixon. He is also survived by many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandmothers, Margaretha Ens and Beatrice Ginet; his grandfathers, Peters Ens, Rene Liboiron, and Rene Ginet; cousin, Brian Ens; and two infant cousins, Clinton Ens and Lonnie Haroldson. Steven bore his illness with courage and his undaunting spirit was an inspiration to all who knew him. He never gave up. He knew that life on earth for him was ending and he was in total acceptance with this and was in perfect peace because he knew that he soon would enter the portals of heaven and receive eternal life. The funeral service was held on Monday, January 28, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Trailview Alliance Church with Pastor Randall Krahn and John Regier officiating. The pianist was Faith Krahn, soloist was his cousin, Tia Ginet, and a tribute was given by his brother and sister, Carolyn Nixon and Mark Ens. The ushers were his cousins, Raymond Fitchner and Brent Ens. The pallbearers were his cousins: Bradley Ens, Harold Friesen, Tim Haroldson, Dennis Zacharias and Darren Ens, and his Uncle, Marcel Ginet. The interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Please visit our website at parksidefuneralhome.com to sign the family book of condolence.
