Obituary of Garry Dingwall

DINGWALL, Garry Allen, age 53 years of Swift Current, SK passed away peacefully at the Swift Current Regional Hospital March 18, 2008 after a long and very courageous battle with cancer, with his family at his side.
His Celebration of Life was held at the Credit Union iPlex on Saturday March 22, 2008, and a second service was held in Deloraine, MB on Tuesday, March 25, 2008. Funeral Services were provided by Parkside Memorial Funeral Home. Garry was born September 11, 1954 in Deloraine MB. where he was raised and took his schooling. After High School he became a Journeyman Lineman with Manitoba Hydro. He married his High School sweetheart and best friend Shelley (Tiernan) in May of 1973. They made Swift Current their permanent home in 1989. Garry worked with the City of Swift Current Light & Power, and later became the Director, a position which he held and enjoyed until his health prevented him to continue. He was pre-deceased by both parents – his Dad,Henry in 1972, and his Mom, Marjorie in 1977. Garry will be sadly missed by his wife Shelley, sons Robbie (Lindsay), Trent, and his daughter Kristyn Lindquist (Kris), and two grandsons, Taylor and Brandon. He also leaves two sisters, Doreen (Pete) Unrau, Cheryl (Gordon) Unrau, and 4 brothers – Ron, Murray (Elaine),all of Deloraine, and Brian and Gerald of Aldersyde, AB. – numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends, and co-workers, and all the people he touched in his short life. Garry & Shelley traveled across the United States & Canada on holidays, and work conferences, and always enjoyed meeting new people and forging lasting friendships. Garry loved all sports, including golf, football, fishing, hockey, and baseball just to name a few. When not playing sports himself, he was involved in coaching & encouraging his kids & grandchildren in whatever sport they were involved in. Garry was a member of the Mason’s, and Swift Current Shrine Club. Garry will always be remembered by his friendly smile, sense of humor, and a very positive outlook on life. He was a great Husband, Dad, Grandpa, brother, & friend. In his memory, donations can be made to the Dr. Noble Irwin Healthcare Foundation Inc. Box 1706, Swift Current, SK S9H 4G6.
