HANDWORK, Francis Hastings It is with saddened hearts that the family of Francis Hastings Handwork announces his passing at Swift Current Care Center on Saturday, July 9th, 2011.
He leaves to mourn, his wife Agatha; son Bryan (Joy); daughter Elaine; grandchildren Lonny, Corey and Marni; sister June Green; half-brothers Stewart and Jerry Carter; stepson Robert Elias; stepdaughter Caroline Preston and several nephews and nieces . Francis was pre-deceased by his parents Harry and Dora Handwork; his first wife, Louse; and a half-brother Richard Carter. Francis was born on August 1st, 1921 at Regina, Saskatchewan. He grew up and went to school in the Ogema, Saskatchewan area. He served as a mechanic in the Air Force during WW11. He married Louise Dexter in 1944. They had two children – Bryan and Elaine. They moved to Cabri in 1954 where he worked as a mechanic, school custodian and later operated a service station. Francis was always interested in interacting with youth. He was instrumental in organizing and running school dances in the local gym. He and Louise started a Cub Scout troop in Cabri and were actively involved in the organization for 15 years. Louise passed away in 1969 and Francis moved to Swift Current in 1972 where he later met and married Agatha Elias in 1975. Francis loved square dancing, photography, camping, fishing and traveling. He and Agatha enjoyed square dancing and took many memorable trips together. He will be sadly missed and forever remain in our hearts. The funeral service was held Thursday, July 14th 2011 at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Swift Current followed by lunch at the church and interment at Cabri Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
