Obituary of Bill Woodrow

WOODROW Mr. Bill Loverne, aged 65 years passed away at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current on August 30, 2011. Bill is survived by his sister, Mary Wilson and her husband Wayne and their children Deborah Hart (Ross), and Christina Baillie (Mark); niece: Denise Wollman; nephew: Vince Whidden; aunts: Selma Dyrland, Ann Woodrow, Pauline Woodrow; as well as numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Tillie in 1991 and his father Scott in 1999; his sister Fay Whidden in 1994; as well as numerous aunts and uncles. Bill was born on March 27, 1946 at Kyle, SK. to Scott and Tillie Woodrow. He grew up on the family farm just 5 miles south of Kyle and he loved animals. He had many cats and dogs as pets over the years and always had a soft spot for them. He had one little favorite dog, Spotty, who only had 3 legs but Bill and that terrier went everywhere together. You would often find them out in the pasture gopher hunting. Bill hauling the water to the gopher hole and Spotty right there ready for the chase. Bill was also very active in 4-H for many years and raised some prized heifers. Bill attended the country school, Peronne School, which was just down the road from the farm for his first years of schooling and was later bused into Kyle to attend Kyle Composite High School. He enjoyed sports while attending school, baseball, football and if driving around Kyle in his ’50 Merc was a school subject, he’d have had 100% average! Bill was always full of fun and loved hanging out with friends, playing cards and just good friendship. At age of 17 he quit school and went trucking. His first trucking job was hauling gravel with South Construction at Parkbeg and from there began long haul driving. Through his 35 years of trucking, mostly with H & R Transport, he drove from ocean to ocean in Canada and the United States seeing so much of the world. This always led to great stories to be told around the dinner table when we were so lucky to have him home for a few days’ rest. He received his “Driving One Million Miles with No Accidents Award in 1997. Bill was such a generous man and would do anything he could for anybody and would do whatever he could to cheer a person up if they were down. Trucking is a hard job and tough on the health. Bill was diagnosed with Diabetes in 1990 and over time it took its toll on his body. In 1999, Bill suffered a stroke and had to stop trucking and so he began living at Southview Seniors Complex in Kyle. He had great friends there and lots of great times playing cards and games. He was happy to be home again amongst friends and family. Bill loved all and any sorts of games and in particular, was very sharp at Cribbage. October 2010, Bill was admitted to the Palliser Regional Care Centre where he lived at the time of his passing. He fought a long and courageous battle for life and is going to be greatly missed by his sister Mary and family. A family graveside ceremony was held Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Clearwater Cemetery followed by a lunch to celebrate Bill’s life at the Kyle Legion at 3:00 PM for all of his family and friends.
