Obituary of Brian Martens
Please share a memory of Brian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MARTENS – Brian Dale – March 5, 1953 – January 31, 2012. It is with heavy hearts that we announce Brian’s passing due to illness. Brian was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Brian is survived by his loving wife Sharon; daughters who adored him – Crystal Martens (Zayda Jean – granddaughter that thought the world of him) and Candy Martens (Matt Skinkle). He was predeceased by his father, mother and sister Marnie. Brian had a love for motorbikes but gave it up to raise a family as he couldn’t take 4 on a 2 seater. He picked it up again in 2009 and you could see the young person in him again every time he started it. He loved camping with his family and friends and looked forward to the yearly Pine Cree Reunion with friends.
Brian was very generous with his time and donated it to the Herbert Ferry Park for 20 years and was on the RLWU Board for 30 years. Brian was a patient person who would spend hours at the lake fishing with his wife because she loved it. They were inseparable best friends. Brian will always be her best friend. He fought a courageous battle and lost January 31, 2012 with his wife and best friend Sharon by his side. Brian will be sadly missed by all that knew him. A funeral service was held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Cappelle officiating. Harvey Schulz and Noel Ens gave a tribute to their good friend. The active pallbearers were: Noel Ens, Neil Block, Cliff Emms, Phil Klassen, Cam Lang and Harvey Schulz. The honorary pallbearers were: Crystal, Candy, Tim, Joanna, Harry and Roger. The interment was held at the Rush Lake Cemetery, Rush Lake, SK. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Herbert Integrated Facility Auxiliary.
