Obituary of Clarence Paulsen

PAULSEN Mr. Clarence of Hallonquist, SK passed away peacefully on April 10, 2012 at the Swift Current Care Centre. Clarence is survived by his son Milton Paulsen, a daughter Marlene Paulsen, granddaughter Shannon (Mark) Fink, great grandchildren Skylar and Preston Fink. Another daughter Tammy (Ken) Deobald, grandson Blake (Erlene) Deobald, great grandchild Vann Deobald, and a granddaughter Brigitte Deobald. Also, he is survived by his youngest sister Laura (Lawrence) Gehring, numerous nephews and nieces and brother & sister in-laws. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife Irene Spitzer on Nov 15, 2010, his brothers Irvin and Elmer Paulsen and his parents Pauline and Peter Paulsen, and also numerous brother and sister in-laws. Carence was born Dec 7, 1925 on the Hallonquist homestead farm. He was able to attend Wiwa View school for 8 years and then chose to stay on the farm to help his dad and mom. On April 24, 1949 he married Irene Spitzer (his soul mate) and they settled on the homestead and enjoyed many years of farming. Clarence loved farming. He loved to work and always kept himself busy. If he wasn’t in the fields, he was welding something together (his inventions) or fixing something in his shop. Clarence took great pride in his yard and enjoyed working together with Irene. They were not only farming partners but “two peas in the same pod” for everything else. Clarence loved to talk. Anyone that drove up to the yard, he was ready for a good visit and a cup of coffee. He was involved with the Hallonquist Town & Country Club and was a life member with the Hodgeville Elks Club. He enjoyed helping out at the Hallonquist Rodeo or the Hodgeville Sports Day because then he could visit with anyone and everyone. Clarence loved his music and dancing. In his earlier years he played in a band, playing mostly the banjo but challenged himself with the saxophone and the piano. If he wasn’t playing an instrument, he would be dancing or just listening to the tunes. Clarence and Irene enjoyed travelling in their motor home and spent many winters down south. They also made a memorial trip to Alaska one summer. Their only regret was they wished they would have travelled years sooner to Alaska so that they could have travelled back again. With Clarence’s kindness, joviality, his helpfulness and love he gave to Irene at the Swift Current Care Centre, it was recognized by many staff. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff for returning their love, care and kindness to Clarence at his time of need. Clarence will be remembered as a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather, neighbour and friend. The memorial service was held on Monday April 16, 2012 at the Bridgeway Community Church with Pastor Bob Cappelle officiating. The interment took place at Mount Pleasant Burial Park in Swift Current, Sk. Memorial donations can be made to Swift Current Auxiliary Care Centre.
