Obituary of Aasen Annetta

1947 ~ 2012 The family of Annetta Lynn Aasen, beloved wife of Robert Glen Aasen, announce her passing on Victoria Day Monday, May 21, 2012, at the age of 64 years. Annetta was born on December 26, 1947, to David &?Jean Wiens and was raised in Shaunavon, SK. Following Graduation she started Nursing School in Regina, SK., until the love of her life, Robert Aasen swept her away and married her on October 3, 1966. After starting their family, Rob was transfered for a two year posting to Thompson, MB., they finally left there 13 years later. During that time Annetta worked for Medical Services in Thompson as well as a Ward Clerk for the Hospital. She later accepted a position in Human Resources with Employment Canada working in several communities in Saskatchewan and Alberta. In her youth, Annetta enjoyed basketball, volleyball and swimming. Her kindness was evidenced by the number of pet dogs she cared for all her life. Annetta’s creative side blossomed with many pounds of clay turning into beautiful pottery pieces as well, her pencil and charcoal drawings, sewing and photography talents were admired by many. As a family they embarked on numerous camping trips throughout the years and Annetta enjoyed attending rodeo’s as often as she could. Her creative scrapbook style Christmas letters to the family will be a keepsake momento for years to come. Annetta will be treasured in the hearts of her, husband, Robert; daughter, Tammie (Garry) Huculiak and their children, Christopher, Jessica; son, Todd Aasen; daughter, Tracie (Alvin) Dawe and their children, Kathleen, Robert; her mother, Jean Wiens; sister, Elaine (Gerald) Dufresne; brother, Bryan (Donna) Wiens as well as brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, David Wiens and grandson, Corey Huculiak. A Celebration of Annetta’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 10:00 A.M., with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. Private family interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Dorothy is survived by her son, Erroll (Addie) Stuart of Rosenhof, Saskatchewan and grandchildren Tiara and Darren; son, David (Nora) Stuart of DeWinton, Alberta and grandchildren Katie and John, as well as her daughter Heather (Larry) Stuart-Panko of Regina, Saskatchewan. Dorothy also leaves behind sister-in-law Connie Fuger (nee Rettie) of Alresford, England, sister-in-law Margaret Rettie of Laurencekirk, Scotland, brother-in-law Jerome (Alma) Stuart of Vancouver, brother-in-law Gerald (Mabel) Stuart of P.A., as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Adam and Barbara Rettie of Scotland, five brothers: Adam, Cyril, Frank, David and Jim, as well as one sister Esther. Dorothy was also predeceased by her husband James (Don) Stuart of Bracken (Feb. 2002), her son Robert Adam Stuart (January, 1981) and son Thomas Anthony Stuart (September, 1991). Dorothy was born in Scotland near Forfar. Dorothy’s parents worked at a number of different dairy farms so the family moved a few times to accommodate this work. She often helped at the dairy or other jobs to help supplement earnings. When she left school at 14 she worked as a seamstress and then as housekeeper/maid. Dorothy also worked in the Land Army in the Timber Corp. She and her friend Nan both had Clydesdale horses which they used to haul felled trees off Balmoral hill to the timber yard below. Mom also worked as a maid at Balmoral Castle in Scotland for the Royal family. Dorothy moved to Canada in 1950 to work in Winnipeg for the Richardson family as a house maid. It was on her voyage to Canada on the Empress of France that she met her future husband. She was married to Don on November 28th, 1951 at his parent’s homestead which Dorothy and Don then took over farming. Over the course of 50 years they made this farm and Bracken their home where they raised their family and were involved in community and church. From a small three room homestead they built up the farm and made a beautiful life for their family. Dorothy’s first love was her family. She loved children and was ever so happy when grandchildren started to arrive and she could spend time with them. She loved helping people and spending time with those in need. The people of Bracken and surrounding communities became a second family. The friendship, support and love from neighbors and friends was important to Dorothy. She and Don and their children were involved in numerous community associations and groups. She also loved her numerous trips back home to Scotland to visit family, friends and to show her own family where she grew up and her history. Dorothy was an avid Royal family watcher. She traveled to Scotland to attend the weddings of Prince Charles and Lady Diana’s (1981), Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson (1986) and Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones (1999). Dorothy’s other love was bowling. She began bowling in Frontier when she was in her 50’s. She then expanded to the league in Shaunavon and finally to Swift Current. She loved the competition but she loved the people more. This was her bowling family. Dorothy earned many awards, trophies and medals. She qualified 10 times to represent Saskatchewan at the Masters National Championships and was very proud of the team gold medal she helped Saskatchewan win in Saskatoon in 2009. Dorothy also enjoyed the youth and participated in the Youth Bowling Canada (YBC), helping to teach children how to bowl and participating with them in competitions. It was Dorothy’s love of bowling and the bowling community that helped keep her healthy and kept her spirit alive. Dorothy will be sorely missed by many family, relatives, friends, bowlers and neighbours. She lived her life to the fullest and was an inspiration to all who knew her. If she was part of your life you were truly blessed. The family express their appreciation to the staff at the Palliser Regional Care Centre and Dr. Lee for the compassionate care they provided to Dorothy. Also, thanks to Reverend Jonathan Kwon for his spiritual care for our mother and for all Dorothy’s friends who visited her at the Palliser. Funeral Services for Dorothy were held in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Swift Current on Saturday, May 12th, 2012. The Interment was at Bracken Cemetery.
