PETERS – Maria (Koethler) passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 7, 2014 at the age of 93 years. She was born April 7, 1921 to Peter and Helena Koethler, the youngest of 7 children. She was predeceased by her husband William Peters on February 14, 2001, her son Ronald June 21, 2001 and siblings, David, Henry, Peter, Jacob, Helen and John. Maria married William Peters on August 1, 1943. They moved to Moose Jaw for a short period of time and then moved to the Dunelm area to farm in 1949. In 1965 they moved to Swift Current and opened a janitorial service. Maria was employed from 1967 until her retirement in 1986 as a custodian with the Swift Current School district working at both the Fairview and Comprehensive High School. In her retirement Maria enjoyed gardening, puzzles, going fishing, writing in her journal and in particular spending time with her grandchildren. Maria moved into the Riverview Estates in 2003 where she enjoyed many new friendships. Maria is survived by her children; Jean (Dennis) Olfert, son David (Linda) Peters, daughter-in-law Genevieve Peters; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held on Friday, September 12, 2014 at Zion Mennonite Church with Reverend Herman J. Wiebe officiating. The ushers were: Peter H. Dyck, George Braun and Phil Schlamp. Special Music was by Terry Neudorf and the organist was Grace Funk. The pallbearers were: David Koethler, Robert Dyck, Roy Dyck, Stan Peters, Dennis Peters and Vern Peters. The interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Maria.
