Please share a memory of Arthur to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MARTENS – Arthur Isaac – passed away peacefully at the Prairie Pioneers Lodge, Saturday October 4th with his wife, Gaye by his side. A Memorial Service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Saturday October 11th at 1:30 p.m. with Bill Burgess officiating. Arthur is survived by his wife, Gaye, his brother John, brothers-in-law Greg and Kim Balas, sister-in-law Holli Platz. Two nephews, Devin and Josserek Balas, one niece Allison Balas, as well as many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Isaac and Annie; two brothers Harry and Ernest and a sister, Hilda Davies. Arthur was born May 16, 1928 in Swift Current where he lived his entire life. After finishing high school, Arthur worked at various stores including Coopers, Acklands and finally at Macleod’s. After working there for many years, he decided he wanted a change. So he and his brother John started a painting business together. That wasn’t quite colorful enough, so he made an even bigger change in 1978 when he married Gaye. They shared their life together, working side by side in their own painting business as well especially enjoying their ministry together. Arthur was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses March 7, 1948. He was as an elder in the congregation, serving as the Theocratic School Overseer for many years; then in later years as a ministerial servant. When he was healthy he enjoyed public speaking and sharing in meeting parts. He believed firmly in the hope of living in a Paradise earth as promised in the Scriptures. He looked forward to the time when all sickness, sorrow, pain and death would be a thing of the past. He loved to share his hope with others, always ready to pick up a conversation with whomever he met. Arthur spent the last year of his life in the Pioneer Lodge where he received the most wonderful care and support. We will always remember with fondness and admiration the caregivers, nurses, and all of the staff there for the remarkable job they do. Arthur will be sadly missed by family and friends. But we all eagerly look forward to seeing him smiling again when he is resurrected to life here on earth as promised in John 5:28,29. Donations in Arthur’s memory may be made to the Prairie Pioneer Lodge Alzheimer’s unit, Watchtower Society or charity of donor’s choice. Arrangements were in care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home.
