Obituary of Dorothy Viola Wiebe
Dorothy Viola Wiebe (nee Schmidt), age 77 of Swift Current, SK passed away on October 25, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on October 31, 1946 to Jacob B. and Marie Schmitt. She was the youngest of eight children. At the age of 14 years old, she met the love of her life, Pete K. Wiebe. They wed in March 1964 and had their son Rodney the same year. Four-and-a-half years later they welcomed their daughter Debbie.
Dorothy worked the majority of her career in the Laundry and Housekeeping Department at the Swift Current Care Centre. She went on to have her own cleaning business and later joined Pete’s painting business.
Dorothy would never sit idle and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, cooking and baking. She would often cook meals a number of times a week for about 10 family members. Near the end of her life, we were able to have a large family supper. Guests included her sister Helen Kernick, her granddaughters Shaye and Emily and great-grandchildren Dylan and Camille. She expressed over and over again how perfect it was for her.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Pete, her children Rod and Debbie (Mike Bissonnette); her grandchildren Sherri (Dan Priest), Shaye (Ryan Harris), Katherine Wiebe, Susie Wiebe, Matthew Bissonnette, and Emily Bissonnette (Cody Lepine); her great-grandchildren Asia Priest, Ethan Priest, Lilyan Harris, Isla Harris, Dylan Harris, and Camille Lepine; her sisters Mary Ens and Helen Kernick; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, four brothers and one sister.
Her family would like to give special thanks to her niece Dr. Corrie Graboski for her medical and emotional support. Dorothy also expressed her fondness for the visits, day trips and baking by her sister-in-law Linda Wiebe and her husband Jake. We would also like to express our gratitude to Pastor Patti Sherk from St. Olaf Lutheran Church for her spiritual support, the Palliative Care Team, Nurse Practitioner Candace Blake, and Dr. Emmett Harrison.
A small service for close family and friends was held at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home on October 28, 2024. In lieu of flowers, Dorothy asked that food or cash donations be given to the Community Fridge. E-transfers can be made to: sccommunityfridgeinitiative@gmail.com.
