Obituary of Martha Wall
WALL – MARTHA with her surviving children present, passed into the presence of her Lord Jesus and a whole host of departed loved ones on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at the Herbert & District Integrated Facility. Martha had just celebrated her 103rd Birthday on the 12th of November! Martha was born on the family farm NW of Rush Lake, SK, the 3rd of seven children to Abraham and Anna Dahlke. She had a happy childhood full of memories of times with her siblings and friends. Early years were marked by hard times and growing involvement in the church. Martha attended the Centre Spring School and completed the seventh grade.
Martha met the love of her life, John Wall, sometime in late 1938. The couple were married on the family farm March 17, 1940, and began their life together in a home rented from Bill Bradley south of Rush Lake. In the first years the times were tough, and Martha contributed to their home by tending a garden, raising chickens, milking cows, and making butter to sell.
By the time the family moved to Herbert in the fall of 1955 Martha had born five children and a sixth was added in 1959. Martha was an excellent mother and caregiver, expending her energies in various endeavours to help make ends meet. She worked as cook in a restaurant/coffee shop, a chamber maid in the local motel, served in the Manor and Nursing Homes in Herbert and helped John when he was custodian at the elementary school. Martha, an ardent follower of Jesus, was heavily involved in the Herbert Church of God until the congregation ceased to exist. Quilting, gardening, going for walks with friends, and occasional travels were sources of joy for Martha, but her children, grandchildren and friends fueled her fondest memories.
Martha was predeceased by her parents, her husband John, all her siblings, two grandsons and a great-grandson, and her three oldest children, Judy (2001), Pat (2011); and Wayne (2023). She is survived by daughter Arlene Lansberry (Lawrence) of Grenfell; son Ray Wall (Carol) of Rosebud, AB; and daughter Pam Klassen (James) of Herbert, SK. Also left to remember Martha with deep fondness are three sisters-in-law, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A special thanks from Martha’s family for the excellent care she received from the staff in the Prairie Winds Estates and the Herbert & District Integrated Facility over the past several years. Donations in memory of Martha can be made to either of these facilities. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Living Faith Fellowship Church at 306 Dennis Street, Herbert, SK. Funeral arrangements are in care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home – Ryan Cappelle & Hayden Cappelle.
