Obituary of Donald Spitzer
SPITZER - Donald Clarence passed away on November 16, 2023 at the Prairie Health Care Centre in Cabri, SK at the age of 91. He was born on September 26, 1932 at Edmonton, AB and was the 5th child to parents Albertina (Buss) & Fredrick Spitzer. Don was predeceased by his wife Carol; parents Albertina & Fredrick; brothers Will & Walt; his sisters Florence, Irene, Mabel and Linda. Don was the last surviving person of his generation. He is survived by his 3 children; Rick Spitzer, Charlynne (Chris) and Colleen (Bruce); 3granddaughters, Carly (Dean) Tank, Corey (Dwight) Wenzel, Teagan (Garnet) Gader; 6 great-grandchildren Jaylyn and Jorie Gader, Owen and Parker Tank, Jack and Hadley Wenzel as well as 1 brother-in-law Robert Krein and his family and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don and his young family lived on the family farm until 1977, then moved to Swift Current, SK. Don was the manager of Mid Continent until 1983. They then moved to the Tyson Farm near Hodgeville to continue farming. In the early 2000’s Don and Carol retired to Swift Current. After Carol’s passing in 2015 Don moved into the Bentley in 2017. He became the number one bingo caller and enjoyed all the activities there. Don had many friends and was always the life of the party. He really enjoyed house gatherings, playing cards and just visiting. Don played an array of sports in his younger years and was an Elks member for over 50 years. Don and Carol were fortunate to spend 25 winters in Las Vegas. They also belonged to the Good Sams RV Club and really enjoyed the community of the club. He loved spending time with his many old and new friends and especially enjoyed his time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 23, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home with the interment being held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK following the service. Arrangements are in care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home – Ryan Cappelle & Hayden Cappelle. Donations in memory of Donald can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
